Being so far away can feel helpless - make a direct impact NOW

From our friends at MaxFund:

Hello all!

We are sure most of you are aware of the terrible situation in Texas.

MaxFund is planning on taking in multiple cats and dogs tomorrow. We don't know how many just yet, but are preparing today. We are looking for any kind of donations you can spare. We are running low on ground turkey (for the picky dogs) and Gerber baby food (Chicken or Turkey for picky dogs and cats). We know they sound unconventional but in a stressed and new environment it can sometimes be challenging to get animals to eat and the really good stuff tends to help.

You can bring any donations to either the dog shelter, located at 1005 Glapago St Denver, CO 80204, or…

If you are struggling to buy a home, you might qualify for assistance

The NeighborhoodLIFT program will provide home buying assistance grants of up to $15,000 to people who typically earn about 80 percent of the median income level in Denver, Adams Jefferson, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.

The program was launched in 2012 to provide grants for low- and moderate-income people across the country who otherwise would qualify for a home loan but cannot meet rising home prices, officials said.

“We had to come up with something,” said Julie Fogerson, regional spokeswoman for…

Get your yard ready for spring now

While next spring's landscaping is likely far from your mind, August is actually a great time to plan for and equip yourself for September and October landscaping practices that will make a great and beauteous impact on your property come spring.

By pressing pause now, property owners aren’t preparing their landscape to be the best it can be during the winter, spring, and next summer. In fact, they say it could all go to waste without proper late season TLC.

There are four key things anyone can do to prep their fall landscape for maximum spring splendor:

- Letting grass grow longer protects it from frost and makes it more resilient to lawn fungus and diseases, as well as invasion by voles, mice and other critters.

History of American Kitchen Design

Proving that everything old becomes new again, we LOVE this great retrospective from Apartment Therapy...and we have to say, while showing homes in the Denver Metro area, we still see plenty of 70s, 80s and 90s kitchens, as well as even older designs!

Looking through the kitchen color trends of the last century tells us a lot more than simply the most popular hues of the moment; they tell us about who we were as a culture and how we've evolved, including our values, historical priorities and general sensibilities.

From the white-dominant, utilitarian function of the 1920s to the bold, psychedelic hues of the 1960s to the earthy neutral minimalism of today, these kitchen color trends have a whole lot to say…

The first phase of a proposed 9,000-home development east of Aurora moved forward Tuesday after with the approval by the Arapahoe County commissioners of a final development plan and preliminary plat for 970 single-family homes southeast of Watkins.

The development, dubbed Prosper, is planned to fill more than 5,100 acres south of Interstate 70 and east of Watkins Road, though Tuesday’s action dealt only with a 743-acre section of the plan.

Prosper’s developer, Vogel Associates, also proposes 20 acres of commercially zoned area, sites for parks, a community center, a school and fire station. Applications for those uses will be reviewed separately.

The developer has a year to file a final plat with the county, at which point shovels could go…

When summer comes to an unfortunate close, we swap out breezy dresses for chunky sweaters and go from rocking lilac nail polish to a deep and moody navy. We make these seasonal changes to our appearance, and it only makes sense that we do the same to our home. Start by stashing your collection of patio rugs, and then make your way through this list to ensure that all the gutters are cleared and drafts are sealed while it’s still warm enough to do so (willingly, that is).

SEAL UP THE DRAFTS

Did you know that a possible crack in your window could account for a 10 percent increase in your heating bill? Here’s a trick for finding the culprits: Hold a candle in front of a window or door seal. If the flame flickers, then air is getting…
