6 Surprising Things You Can Check Out from Denver Public Library

There are half a dozen reasons to visit your public library, not one of them involving books.

The Denver Public Library has an entire “Library of Things” available to DPL card holders for free. Some of the items are actually very valuable. Check them out (and then, literally, check them out):

1. Museum Pass

Want to go to the art museum but can’t afford admission? Get a free pass from the library! All you have to do is book online (up to 30 days in advance) and print your confirmation to gain entry to the museum. Participating museums and cultural institutions include: Denver Museum of Nature and Science, History Colorado Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and more.

2. State Park Pass

You can visit any one of Colorado’s 42 beautiful State Parks, thanks to your FREE library pass. Each pass comes with a family activity backpack and admits one carload of people. The checkout period is 1 week.

3. Google Chromebook

Need a computer to yourself for a few hours? You can borrow a Chromebook at the library for up to four hours and get online using their free in house wifi at all 26 DPL locations.

4. GoPro Camera

Another hot commodity you can check out from the library: a GoPro Hero 3 digital camera. The checkout period is 1 week so you can take it with you on your next trip to the mountains. Includes accessories and carrying case.

5. Wireless Hotspot

No internet? No problem. You can check out a portable wireless hotspot from the library for 30 days at a time, so you can have wifi wherever and whenever you want.

6. Draft Check Meter

And finally, probably the LAST thing you’d expect at the library: a draft check meter! Feeling drafty at home? Now you can rent an infrared sensor that will allow you to check for leaks along walls, molding, ductwork and more. The meter provides quick, intuitive feedback, showing you where to caulk and insulate. Checkout period on this helpful and money-saving device is 3 weeks.

All you need is a library card.

Bonus:

Check your local library for one additional item - cake pans! Say you want to bake a football cake for your tailgating party, but don’t want to buy a brand new cake pan that you’ll only use once. It may be available to check out from the library. Brilliant.
