From McMansions to minimalism, home trends are constantly changing.

According to Google, here are the most sought-after home styles right now.

1. Ranch

It’s not that surprising the American ranch takes the top spot. It is the most popular home style in 34 U.S. states, after all.

Ranch-style homes are typically confined to one level, have spaces that blur the line between indoors and out (thanks, in large part, to abundant windows), and feature long lines reminiscent of the mid-century modern style. They’re unpretentious and their single-floor design accommodates residents of all ages. Typically built on large lots of land, the perfectly-sized ranch and its spacious backyard encourages laid-back living.

2. Tudor

Taking the number two spot is the Tudor-style home. It’s great for those seeking a traditional look that isn’t a total bore. Originating in England, these homes are very distinctive and eye-catching, thanks to their contrasting, half-timbered facades and steeply pitched, multi-gabled roofs.

3. Craftsman

It’s no wonder Craftsman-style homes, with their rejection of mass production and focus on handmade, artisanal features, are hugely appealing to younger homebuyers. This demographic embraces the current DIY movement and, in general, favors authenticity and originality.

4. Mediterranean

Full of color and warmth, Mediterranean-style homes utilize ornate details (think multicolored tiles and mosaics), porticos, and balconies to recall the style’s namesake region. Those seeking a home that’s bold and full of life will instantly be drawn to this aesthetic.

5. Modern

Mid-century modern homes are a perennial retro-lover’s favorite, with their long lines, built-in storage, ample natural light, and mixed palette of materials (ranging from exposed brick and stone, to glass and concrete). The clean-lined look goes hand-in-hand with today’s minimalist movement, while the extra finishes and features add the charm that modern homebuyers desire.
