Spring fever has come early for many Coloradans, with sunny days, warm weather, and even some flowers and trees starting to bud.

Get started on your spring cleaning and make your home stand out with a picture perfect yard! To make the most of the warm days as the state transitions from winter to spring, here are 7 ways that ReColorado recommends getting your home ready for the Spring + Summer months, especially if you are thinking about selling your Denver area property this year.

Between the interior spring cleaning, decorating, and the yardwork that has to be done, you’ll settle for mowed grass and clean floors by the time April rolls around.

Nearly 75 percent of Americans participate in some form of spring cleaning. The stats might not show it, but in order to recover from so much winter damage, spring cleaning is often filled with half-measures and shortcuts. There’s just too much to take care of… unless you have a few tips to help you out.

There are plenty of hacks to getting your home ready for nice weather. Following these pointers will make the job easier no matter what time of year it is.

1. Get your garden in gear

The rest of your house can look like a tornado hit it, but as long as your garden is blooming nobody will even notice. Alright, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but having your flowers in tip-top shape for the start of the season is a surefire way to have your exterior looking great for prime spring time.

As long as you find plants that are suited for your region’s temperature, your spring lawn care can start at the first sign of decent weather. Let everybody else get the late jump by starting after the warm temperatures come around. If cooler fronts roll in, just cover your plants with a tarp or plastic and make sure they don’t get too much water.

And don’t forget that your plants will need a solid soil to be ready for the sunshine. Whether it’s in the mailbox flowerbed or the backyard garden, keep an eye on pH balance and remember to fertilize.

2. Go for the distressed look

There is a new trend sweeping the furniture world: distressing, or making something look old. That’s the key. A couple nicks here and a few dings there and just like that you have great looking porch furniture.

There’s beauty in use. That’s the philosophy behind the current wave of ‘distressed’ looking pieces that everyone seems to love. To add this touch to your porch furniture, apply a new coat of white paint and distress with sandpaper. Sand down the corners just enough to match this style.

3. Add some color

Throwing in some reds and yellows will brighten up your outdoor space. Use these colors as accents, not your main theme. Consider adding brightly colored cushions to white patio furniture. A splash of color can add character to a classic white or neutral theme.

4. Throw down a few bags of mulch

Mulch is so easily accessible (and inexpensive) now that there’s no reason not to cover up some of those ugly bare spots in your yard with a black or brown mulch mixture. You can easily find smaller bags at your local hardware store or big box store. It’s worth the trip.

5. Put your weeds to work

Tired of planting flowers that never look nice? Are you sick of weeds growing like, well, weeds? Then put them to work for you! Cut down a few groves and throw them on the hillside. Once they all start to bloom, the various colors and natural look of them will add a beautiful touch to your outdoor space.

6. Sharpen your mower blades with one spray

It might not technically be sharpening your blades, but spraying cooking oil on them will help the grass not clump or stick to the inside of your mower. The result is a nicely cut lawn. The cleaner the break, the healthier the yard.

7. Take out the trash

If you’re on the fence about the fence (or any other decoration that has paid its dues), err on the safe side. Unless it looks brand new or charming, there’s no reason to clutter up your space. A clean exterior is a pretty one-your neighbors and potential buyers will think so too.
