It's not too early to think about reserving campsites in Colorado’s state parks and wildlife areas!
At the first of the year, Colorado State Parks converted to a “reservation-only” system for campsites at 20 state parks. The program was tested successfully at five state parks last July (Cheyenne Mountain, Eleven Mile, Staunton, St. Vrain and Trinidad Lake) and is being expanded this year.
Campsites can be reserved six months in advance. That means you can assume sites in your favorite state parks for July 4th are already being reserved. And if they’re not, consider this a friendly suggestion to beat the crowd and lock in now.
Sixteen parks were added to the reservation-only program on Jan. 1. They are the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Boyd Lake, Cherry Creek, Golden Gate Canyon, Highline Lake, Jackson Lake, John Martin Reservoir, Lathrop, Mueller, North Sterling, Pearl Lake, Ridgway, State Forest, Steamboat Lake and Yampa River.
Lake Pueblo and Chatfield will be added on April 1.
Under the new guidelines, campers can reserve sites online (cpwshop.com) or by calling 800-244-5613. For more information, call the CPW Call Center at 800-678-2267 or 303-297-1192.
