What to do in Denver When It's Cold outside
This weekend's cold snap has us getting in the holiday mood, so we thought we would round up some fun winter activities that will start soon in the Denver Area. Some of them require tickets and sell out fairly quickly.
Denver Rink at Skyline Park
It’s that time of year again — the downtown Denver Rink at Skyline Park is set to reopen at 10 a.m. Nov. 20.
According to Denverite, This is the ninth season for this Denver tradition — your annual opportunity to laugh at your loved ones as they fall down. That’s what the holiday season is all about — a good fall.
Skating at the park is free. Skate rentals are $8 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and younger. Avid skaters can get a season skate-rental pass — $50 for adults and $35 for kids 12 and younger.
To kick off opening day, there will be remarks from vice president of Downtown Experience for the Downtown Denver Partnership Sharon Alton, Denver City Councilman Albus Brooks, executive director of Denver Parks and Recreation Happy Haynes and Downtown Denver Partnership chairman Mike Zoellner. Shortly after that, 50 Denver kids will get first-skate and the kick off what will also include a performance from the Denver Figure Skating Club.
Throughout the season the rink will have an eventful lineup, including DJs on Friday nights, skating with Santa, weekly “snow yoga,” free skating lessons and more.
“Each year, about 40,000 residents and visitors lace up and take to the ice,” Alton said in a press release. “The rink is a perfect addition to any downtown itinerary, ideal for a lunch-time break for our more than 133,000 downtown employees, a post-dinner treat for our 80,000 center city residents, and of course, a magical holiday experience for everyone who visits the center city.”
