2018 was clearly a Seller’s Market in nationwide residential real estate.

Supply has been low and housing starts are down 1.4 percent year-over-year, which has lead to increasing home prices and a reduction in the total number of homes sold.

Overall, total revenue has remained flat: Fewer sales were made, but the sales that were made came at higher price points.

So, what is in store for the year ahead?

What is the housing market doing now?

New residential home sales dropped 8.9 percent in October, falling to a new two-year low, according to a new residential sales report released Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Scars from the housing market crash a decade ago…

You thought 'hygge' was hard to pronounce? Good luck with this one.

The Danish lifestyle craze of hygge took the world by storm in 2016. And in the years since? Well, it feels like every cold, dark country (see: Sweden with lagom, Scotland with còsagach) is trying to rebrand their crappy weather as a lifestyle trend.

Cwch, as described by PureWow, basically is hygge, but more specifically for your home.

A cwtch (pronunciation: kutch) is in essence a small and cozy space meant for cuddling up in. (The Welsh root of the word is 'cubbyhole'.) Think: A den corner turned cushy-cozy reading nook; a canopy bed piled in exorbitant amounts of pillows). Applied in the broader sense, it's really just the art of crafting intimacy-invoking,…

There are many things you can do to increase its value and make it the home you’ve always wanted. If you’re considering a new home that needs considerable renovations, keep reading.

Things to overlook:

When you think of a fixer-upper property, your thoughts may first go to damaged floors, a leaky roof, and busted gas lines. While those sorts of issues are possible, there are more common issues you are likely to encounter, many of which are also the easiest to fix and the best to overlook.

Cosmetic imperfections

A typical home inspection won’t even mention dirty carpets or torn curtains. These cosmetic imperfections aren’t…

It’s been a bumpy ride with flighty swings for the S&P 500 stock index this past week, which dropped by 4.6 percent.

According to Ruben Gonzalez, chief economist at Keller Williams, very few buying and selling decisions are likely to be directly impacted in the near-term by the stock market’s decline, stating “it’s more likely that buyers and sellers become more jittery about the future of the economy in general, and this could affect housing decisions.”

The stock market blip could be nothing more than a simple correction, says Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®, who states a housing bubble prediction is misplaced; in fact, this correction could prove beneficial to homebuyers, spurring a slowdown in interest…

Denver wants to become a certified Community Wildlife Habitat, which basically means a lot of gardens

Denver hopes to be certified by the end of 2019, joining 116 other cities and towns across the country, including big ones like Houston and Baltimore. Denver would be the largest Community Wildlife Habitat in the West.

To get there, Denver will need to rack up 750 points. The minimum point total is determined by population.

Here’s what you can do:

To get your backyard (or balcony) habitat certified by the National Wildlife Federation, you’ll need to meet requirements in five categories. There are various ways to do it:

  • Food. This can include things like berries, nectar and bird feeders. Your habitat needs three of the 13 options.

Denver got a new transportation disruptor on Thursday. No, not more scooters — this time, it’s Getaround, a decentralized car-sharing system based in the Bay Area that allows you to rent your car out to perfect strangers or, inversely, rent a perfect stranger’s wheels for the day.

Here’s how it works: I, a car owner, register my – let’s say – Subaru with a snowboard rack with the app. Part of this process involves naming your car. We’ll call mine “Steve.” It’s free to list Steve for the first 30 days.

Getaround will come by and take photos of Steve and install hardware that tracks his whereabouts with GPS and allows me to lock the car remotely. Their system can even remotely lock Steve’s engine if necessary.

I get to set the times when Steve…

Housing inventory in the Denver area is up nearly 47 percent year to date compared to last year, but sales are down.

In November, year to date, housing inventory has increased 46.76 percent compared to last year in the residential market (single-family and condos), but was down 11.82 percent from last month. Meanwhile, fewer homes sold in the Denver area in November, down 17.27 percent from October, and that dropped the number of sales year to date to less than any in the past three years.

Notably, the low months of housing inventory will keep homes prices strong according to Jill Schafer, Chair of the DMAR Market Trends Committee and Metro Denver REALTOR®.  While the average sold price of $462,344 was down 6.3 percent from the…
